glacier, valley glacier
A glacier is a river of ice. A valley glacier is a glacier which flows entirely within a valley. If a glacier comes out of mountains and spreads out onto a plain it becomes part of an ice sheet.
This picture shows the glaciers around Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain. The streaks on the glaciers are broken rock which has fallen onto the surface of the ice and is being carried with the ice. This is called moraine.
