Mud goes with a flood:1

When we think about floods, we think of water. But the people who get flooded out discover something else - the river has been carrying all kinds of material. People often call it mud, but really it's many things. Some clings like glue, and some really pongs!

To know what the river is really carrying we can dip a jar into floodwater. We find it contains many sizes of material.
