Deltas

When a river enters a lake or the sea it enters a body of still water. The sand is only kept travelling by the river's speed. Once the speed is lost, the sand drops out.

As the sand drops, it adds to the edge of the shore, and the river flows a little further before entering the lake or sea. Over time a delta forms.
