How lakes change

Most of what happens in a lake goes on unseen below the surface.

To see how a lake changes you need to see what happens when a river enters.

The river flows in fast, carrying sand and mud. The lake is deep and still, so the heavy sand is quickly dropped, but the mud travels out into the lake before it settles.
