Features of a meander

A meander is a single bend in a snaking river.

If we look at a side view we can see that a meander has deep water on the outside and shallow water on the inside.

The water also flows faster on the outside. Faster flowing water has more energy to wear away the bed and banks. This is why it's deeper.
