Canyon

A canyon (can-yun) is a name for a steep-sided valley in an area with little rain.

Without rain, plants can't grow and soil can't cover the valley sides, so we see the bare rocks.

There are no canyons in Britain, they are all in places with dry weather. The Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA, is over a mile (1.6km) deep, making it the world's biggest valley.
