People in cities mostly live beside middle rivers, but it's harder to see the floodplain when you are in a city than when you are in the countryside.
City floodplains do flood and for this reason the land by the river is often left as open space for games fields.
Some big cities use up all of their floodplain and then they have to build walls to keep the river in its channel during floods.
