Snow

Snow is a special form of water in the water cycle. When snow falls it does not immediately continue the water cycle. Instead, the snow simply piles up until the weather warms enough for the snow to melt.

So the water cycle may be stopped for several months! But if the weather warms quickly, the snow may melt before the ground can thaw, causing floods.
