Why rivers keep flowing

Rivers get their water from rain that has seeped through soil and rock.

It takes time for water to seep through, which is why rivers don't rise up as soon as it starts raining and why streams keep flowing even after it has stopped raining.

Water often seeps out of the soil at springs. This is what we shall see in the next section.
