The world is short of food. You have probably noticed the prices of food going up in our shops. This is happening across the world because 60 million people (=everyone in the UK) extra are added to the world's population each year.

So there is pressure to turn the rainforest into farmland. People in Asia use the land for growing rice and palm oil nuts and in South America for maize and grazing cattle.
