Bromeliads are plants that live on the branches of trees. Many people keep bromeliads as houseplants. They are related to pineapples.
While orchids are delicate, bromeliads are tougher, with stiff, waxy leaves that form a "cup" to collect rainwater. They do not use their roots to collect water. They get their nourishment from small animals that die in the water of their cups.
