Q1: Why are rivers uncommon in high mountains?

[Answer]

Mountains are mainly worn away into peaks and valleys by ice.

Because mountains are high, they receive snow, rather than rain. This packs together and changes into rivers of ice, which are called glaciers.

Glaciers don't move quickly like rivers. So instead of having a small stream, mountain valleys have thick, wide glaciers.
