Some mountain chains, such as the Andes and the Cascades, have lots of active volcanoes.

Some mountain chains, such as the Alps and the Himalayas, have very few.

It's mainly the mountain chains on the edges of continents that have active volcanoes. The most active volcanoes of all are around the edge of the Pacific Ocean. People call it the Pacific Ring of Fire.
