People who live by the seaside want the authorities to stop the coast near to their homes from wearing away. But is this wise?

The waves have lots of energy, so they have to get rid of it somewhere. If walls are put up in one place, the waves will simply attack somewhere else.

We have to learn that some places have to be sacrificed for the good of the coast as a whole.
