Avatars of Vishnu and Ganesha
There are many other important gods. These include forms of Vishnu, called avatars, and the god Ganesha.
There are hundreds of other gods and goddesses in Hinduism. For example, whenever evil gets the upper hand, Vishnu comes down to Earth to restore the balance. He has done this nine times in the past, each time in a different form, called an aVataR.
Krishna
Krishna is the eighth avatar of Vishnu, and he is worshipped by more Hindus than any other of Vishnu’s forms.
Krishna represents joy, freedom and love. He is often shown as a mischievous child and many stories in the Hindu scriptures are told of his childhood.
In his adult life, Krishna was the wise hero of the ancient epic poem the maHaBHaRata, in which he laid down the principles of practical Hinduism.
Rama and Sita
The seventh avatar of Vishnu was Lord Rama, a princely hero who represents the qualities loyalty, bravery, strength and responsibility. He is also a role model for how to be the perfect
son, husband and ruler.
