There is one big picture on a spread on purpose. We want everyone to engage on one thing. We don’t want eyes flitting all over the page to random pictures and captions.
In a mixed ability class, these books are great to start with in a whole class session. The pictures are complex enough for the more able if you draw additional materials from them as described above, and the text is short and simple enough for everyone to get a grasp of what the page is all about. So no one gets left behind.
