Viking
A series of two NASA space probes to Mars.
Voyager
A series of two NASA probes
to the outer planets. They were planned for launch in 1977 in order to make use of a special conjunction of the outer planets. The Voyager probe mission is ongoing.

Weight
The gravitational force exerted on a body.
White dwarf
A whitish star of high surface temperature and low brightness, with a mass approximately equal to that of the Sun but with a density many times larger.
 Voyager—This shows a full-scale model of the Voyager spacecraft. On the right is the science boom, containing cameras and other instruments. The long boom at left has two magnetic-field detectors and stretches 14m out from the spacecraft. In the center is an antenna 4m in diameter, providing communication with Earth. Below is a shiny gold disk, a record called “Sounds of Earth,” with messages and pictures from our planet.
