Mythical dragons

What are Mythical Dragons? Long ago, people tried to make sense of the world using stories. They found huge bones in the ground, saw powerful snakes, crocodiles, and lizards, and watched storms tear across the sky. Without science to explain these things, many cultures imagined great creatures that were part animal, part magic, and full of power. These became dragons.

In Wales, the dragon has a special story behind it. Long ago, people told a legend about two dragons who were fighting beneath the land. One was red and one was white. Their battles caused earthquakes and terrible noise, and the people were frightened. A wise king followed advice to trap the dragons and put them to sleep.

Much later, the dragons woke and fought again. This time, the red dragon won. In the story, the red dragon came to represent the Welsh people, and the white dragon their enemies. The legend said that the red dragon would always rise and protect the land.

That is why the red dragon appears on the Welsh flag today. It is a symbol of strength, survival, and pride. It reminds people in Wales that their country has a long story, and that even when times are hard, the red dragon will endure. This turns the Welsh dragon into more than a picture. It becomes a promise that a people and their culture will carry on.
