Isambard Kingdom Brunel was one of the greatest engineers who ever lived. He was born in 1806 and grew up at a time when Britain was changing fast. Steam engines were being invented, railways were spreading, and people were beginning to travel farther than ever before. Brunel believed that clever design could make life better. He wanted trains to be faster, ships to be bigger, and bridges to be stronger and more beautiful.

He designed enormous steamships, long railway lines, tunnels under rivers, and some of the most famous bridges in the world.
