Short cut: Try typing the whole assignment into the search box.
Have you been asked to do an assignment? That means a project, task, report, poster, presentation or piece of research work.
Then you have done the right thing by searching for the word assignment.
You can use our search to find the details you need. But first, you need to think carefully about what you have been asked to do.
The purpose of an assignment is to give you a chance to learn how to find things out for yourself. You will need that skill all of your life. So it is important. Don’t expect always to be given the answers.
Look at your assignment and write it out clearly. Then put a ring around the words that seem most important.
For example, your assignment might say:
Complete an assignment on how Tudors kept healthy.
The important words are:
Tudors and healthy.
So now you could search for:
Tudor health
or
Tudor medicine
or
Tudor food
That will help you find the information you need.
Now break the assignment into steps.
First, ask yourself: What exactly am I being asked to do?
Then ask: What do I already know?
Then ask: What do I need to find out?
Gather information from books, videos, trusted websites and your class notes. Do not try to copy everything. Look for the parts that answer your assignment question.
Next, make a simple plan. Divide your work into sections. For example:
Introduction
What is the assignment about?
Main information
What facts, examples or explanations have you found?
Conclusion
What have you learned or shown?
Then complete one section at a time.
When you have finished, read your assignment again. Check that you have answered the question. Correct mistakes. Make your work clear and easy to read.
Remember: an assignment can look difficult at first, but it is really just a set of smaller steps. Start with the important words, search for the right information, and take one step at a time.
