Q1: What are some common examples of food-producing microbes?

[Answer]

Microbes need to eat, and they eat the same food as us. This can be good news.

Bread is full of tiny holes made by bubbles of gas made by a microbe called yeast, which is a type of fungus. Yeast is also used in making beer and wine.

During cheese-making, bacteria give cheeses their distinctive flavour, stop the growth of any harmful microbes and so preserve the cheese.
