We can mostly choose what we want to eat – something that's very different from the past. So we can take in too much of some kinds of food and too little of others without really realising it.

Our main energy should come from starchy foods – bread, pasta and cereals, not from fat. We should eat fibre foods (anything from plants) and hold back on foods cooked with salt.
