How can you find out which materials are good conductors?
Listen to and watch the video.
The demonstration shows that heat travels by conduction, but it does not tell us how we could find out which materials are good conductors.
However, there is one useful test you can use when conditions are cold: if you touch something and it feels warm, it means that heat is not leaving your fingers and so the material is a poor conductor. A towel is like this. If you touch a good conductor it will feel cold and carry on feeling cold because it carries heat away from your fingers. A metal handrail is like this. What other materials can you find?
