Q1: What else could the elephants do to keep cool?

[Answer]

Animals have to keep warm or cool just as we do. But they are built differently and so use different ways of keeping warm and cool.

Warm-blooded animals, such as elephants, cool down by spraying themselves with water (which evaporates and cools the skin), and they flap their ears to cause cool air to flow past their skin.

Reptiles are cold-blooded and need to heat up – so they sunbathe in the early part of the day.
