Q1: What happens to a shadow during the course of a day?

[Answer]

Have you ever noticed that shadows change length at different times of the day and in different parts of the year?

The Sun never gets high in winter and so shadows are always long. In summer the Sun gets high in the sky at noon and then shadows are shorter.

Shadows always move with the Sun. This is why we can make sundials.
