Conditions do not stay the same all the time, but vary over the course of the year. The main changes occur with the seasons. In many places away from the equator there are four seasons: winter spring, summer and autumn.

If a plant is to survive in a habitat it must be adapted to cope with all the conditions in each season of the year.
