The scaffolding of you and me and of dinosaurs, is made by bones and called the skeleton.
If a skeleton were made of a single piece of bone, it would not be able to change shape. It would be like a shell. If, however, a skeleton is made of many parts, those parts have to be held together and also allowed to move somehow. That is the job of cartilage, tendons and muscles. But when an animal dies those soft tissues rot away and then, unless we are lucky, the bones fall apart and get scattered.
