Bacteria and viruses can cause disease.
When a harmful bacterium or virus enters the body it may take the body some time for the body to detect it. During this time the microbes can breed and produce such large numbers that they cause disease.
The body has ways of defending itself but it can also be helped by disinfectants, antiseptics, medicines and vaccines.
