Many mosques have walls and ceilings completely covered with decoration.
Muslims do not believe in having pictures of people or animals inside mosques, but they still wish the mosques to be a delight to the eye. So, the decorations use geometric designs and patterns, paintings of plants, patterns made with coloured tiles and especially decorative writing known as calligraphy.
