This is the first station. The word station is similar to the word stationary. It means a place where we stop, or are still. A station is a place in the prayer that we stop at in order to think deeply about its meaning. This prayer has 14 places to stop, therefore 14 stations. This one shows Jesus standing in front of Pontius Pilate.
