Look around your local graveyard and try to see how many different types of material you can find used as grave markers.

You should look for stone, wood and metal.

The stone types vary, but the most common are white marble; white, grey and black speckled granite; and dark grey slate.

You might also find some made of brown sandstone, but as these do not last well, you may find that these are the ones whose inscriptions are most difficult to read.
