The Vikings were not interested in keeping records and so we know little directly about what happened in Viking times.
The Vikings wrote in runes, angular letters which were hard to write. So they told one another stories called sagas, that were handed down through the generations.
These sagas, are mostly of heroic deeds of the early Viking raids, but some are also based on fact and tell us about the Viking way of life.
