One of the many important changes in Victorian times was the invention of the shop selling finished goods that had been made in factories.

The most common store was the corner store selling a wide range of goods.

But there were enough people with money for shops to specialise, for example selling wool or hats. Most people bought their goods from little rows of shops near where they lived. A few used the new department store.
