Find a map of a place near to you that includes a railway and a station in a town or city.

Look at the railway station. Is it close to the middle or on the edge of the town?

Follow the tracks. Find out how many bridges there are.

Imagine you are a Victorian who lives in one place and goes to work someplace else. Then the railway comes and builds a line between where you live and where you go to work. How will this affect your journey to and from work?

Use the map to show how you might now have to take a longer journey to go via a bridge.
