 
	
	
A town was already a place of  crafts  and  trades. People made wagons and barrels, forged scythes and knives, made chairs and stools, sold cloth and  clothes. 
	
There was an order to who made what where. The wealthier trades might be near an abbey or a castle, while the smellier, poorer and more dangerous trades were forced to be on the edge of town.
