Henry VII (from the House of Lancaster) was crowned king in 1485. His marriage to Elizabeth (from the House of York) ended the long Wars of the Roses.

Henry and Elizabeth had four children: Arthur (who died young), Henry (later Henry VIII), Mary (married to the king of France) and Margaret (married to the king of Scotland).

The marriages gave both France and Scotland claims on the English throne.
