The new settlers made many of the same mistakes as those who had gone before.
The colonists had expected to trade for food with the native peoples, but the native peoples did not have enough food to spare. It took a new governor, Lord de la Ware, and his supply ships to get things going again.
But this time the settlers did start growing crops. John Rolfe was the first. He grew tobacco and sent it back to England and he made his fortune. The colony was there to stay.
