One of the early English explorers was Martin Frobisher. In 1576 he reached what is now Labrador, Canada.
There he was surprised to find people in canoes (kayaks). These people, the Inuit, were surprised to find the English, too.
At first they tried to bargain and some of Frobisher's men went off to the Inuit camp. When they did not come back Frobisher thought the Inuit had captured them.
