The Anglo-Saxon and the Viking ages finished within a week of one another in 1066. It was all a result of the fight for the English crown.
Harold of England, Harald, the Viking king and William, Duke of Normandy, all claimed the throne.
The Vikings attacked England first and were destroyed by the Anglo-Saxons under Harold. But Harold's army did not have the strength to fight off William as well, and so the Anglo-Saxons lost and it was the end of Anglo-Saxon times.
