Q1: Where was the fire in an Anglo-Saxon house?

[Answer]

Right in the centre of the room was an open hearth made of a ring of stones. This was where people cooked their food, and at night in winter people also slept around the embers.

There was little furniture and it was of the simplest kind. Tables were planks on trestles and seats were simple stools. Beds were planks around the sides of the room.

The most valuable item would probably have been a chest with a lock.
