Pottery and glass were important items in the home.
Pots were used to store food in, and plates and mugs used for eating and drinking. Glass was used for drinking.
A typical home had a mixture of fine quality and everyday items.
Guests would never see the tall storage jars (amphorae) kept in the kitchen, but would be served on special red Samian ware, which was very fashionable and invented in France (then known as Gaul).
