Life for Romans was based around living in towns.

Towns had a market, or agora, where goods could be bought and sold, they had law courts and tax offices (the forum), baths and an amphitheatre.

Roman towns also had many homes: blocks of flats for the ordinary people, and villas with spacious walled gardens for the well-off.
