Q1: Why did the Iron Age people build forts and castles (Answer in picture loop)?

[Answer]

We can trace the way British people defended themselves right back to Iron Age times, that is about 800 years BC.

The first fortification we know about belong to the Iron Age people. We now know their earthworks by the sea as cliff castles and the ones inland as hillforts. To find out more visit the Ancient Britons part of the site.

They built massive earthworks of ditches and banks to protect whole tribes.
