The Maya and Aztec worshipped their gods using pyramid-like temples.
The main Aztec temple in Tenochtitlan, capital of the Aztec empire, was in the middle of the city. This is where the most important religious activities in Aztec life took place.
It was 30m tall and was made of two stepped pyramids side by side on a huge platform.
It was surrounded by an area called the Sacred Precinct.
