Many statues were built to recognise the triumphs of the emperors. But no other emperor had a column built for him.
Trajan's column was built in the courtyard of Trajan's Forum. The column is just over 30m high and wrapped around it in a spiral is one of the world's greatest ever works of sculpture.
The sculpture tells the story of Trajan and his army fighting the people of Dacia (now Romania).
