The sanctuary at Delphi is not close to any ancient city, but in a remote mountain area. It was next to a sacred spring.
The site is very difficult because of the steep slopes and the temple of Apollon had to be built partly on rock, partly on stones as there was no flat ledge wide enough.
It was the home of the famous 'oracle', who foresaw the future.
