Q1: What are the two most striking features of a temple?

[Answer]

Temples were huge rectangular buildings with gently sloping roofs.

The Greeks, like the ancient Egyptians, didn't know how to support a large roof without using many columns. So they turned this limitation into a masterly piece of architecture, placing columns all around the outside, and further rows of columns inside.

As a result, columns are the most distinctive features of the temples.
