The ancient Greek world revolved around the worship of their gods.
They set aside places in which the gods could be revered in peace, and away from a troubled world. These areas of countryside were called sanctuaries.
The sanctuaries and the goods they left behind in them, more than anything else, give clues to the lives and beliefs of the ancient Greeks.
