Poseidon was the god of the seas.  From below the waters Poseidon controlled  earthquakes, which were a real threat to the Greek lands. 
		
		As a result, Poseidon was called the 'Earth Shaker'.
		
		Poseidon was also connected to  violent storms and the sea, so Poseidon was thought of as an angry  god.   
		
		
		Poseidon was also a lover. He fell in love with the goddesses Medusa and Demeter.
		
		
		 Poseidon was known as Neptune in Roman times.
