A final wrapping was added and a painted board placed on the mummy before it was placed in the first coffin.

The first coffin was then placed in a larger second coffin.

The coffins were then placed in a final large stone coffin, called a sarcophagus. The sarcophagus, together with grave goods that the person will need in the afterlife, were then sealed in the tomb. As people can no longer get to the body, in the case of pharaohs a temple of remembrance was built at the outer end of the tomb (in the case of the pyramids) or, in later times, somewhere close to the tomb. This is called a mortuary temple.
